Senior Accounting Officer

Summary

The Senior Accounting Officer provides financial operations support to Strategic Capacity Group (SCG) in fulfillment of its capacity building mission worldwide.  The Senior Accounting Officer is responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements, managing organizational cash flow, and ensuring regulatory compliance with numerous federal grants. S/he reports to the Director of Finance and Administration, coordinates with other members of the finance team, and serves as an integral member of SCG’s growing Finance & Administration department.

Accountabilities

•      Completes monthly project financial reports for numerous grants

•      Collaborates with outsourced accountant to issue monthly organization wide financial statements

•      Ensures compliance of SCG financial records with US GAAP and 2 CFR 200

•      Forecasts cash needs; prepares drawdown requests and communicates drawdowns to outsourced accountants; monitors receipt of funds

•      Oversees and manages SCG’s annual Uniform Guidance Audit

•      Assists with preparation of the annual budget; recommends modifications based on actuals

•      Supports SCG’s development team to create proposal budgets, budget narratives, and project spend plans

•      Prepares drafts of organization tax returns with assistance of tax accountant

•      Prepares semi-monthly payroll in coordination with the Administration and Finance Officer

•      Regularly reviews financial policies and internal controls with the Director of Finance and Administration

•      Performs other duties as required to further the organization’s mission and goals

Requirements

•      A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred

•       A valid CPA is required

•       Knowledge and experience with U.S. government regulations for non-profit grantee organizations is strongly preferred

•       Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in the management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, and auditing

•       Proficiency with Adobe and Microsoft Word; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required

•       Strong problem solving and analytical skills

•       Ability to maintain confidentiality related to sensitive financial matters

•      Excellent organization and prioritization skills to support Strategic Capacity Group’s continued fast-paced growth
